Homemade Fruit Rollups

Every now and then I get to drive away from the city, get away from my routine.
In my getaway place I get to hold baby chicks, skateboard, focus on shooting
in analog format, purchase craft beer, and cook anything from scratch you can think of.
This is my heaven. Food. Freedom. Fun.
It all began in 2013 and the fun continues.
Each visit to this place provides me with a way of creating something new...
and usually not in my typical artistic avenues.

My friend Ginger is my accomplice.
And my accomplice owns a massive dehydrator.
We've dehydrated quite a few things but this go-around we made fruit leather (or fruit roll-ups).

We started the process by chopping up all of the fruit and blending them separately.
We then heated up a pot for each fruit, turned the heat to high and let it come to a boil.
This helps reduce the amount of air trapped from blending. We scooped the foam off the top
and spread the fruit on a sheet of parchment paper in very thin layers.
Once this semi-long process was over we shoved them into drawers
in the dehydrator for several hours.

Triple Berry fruit roll-up: blueberries, raspberries, strawberries (above)

Yellow fruit roll-up: banana, strawberry, pineapple (above)

The yellow one got dehydrated a little too long so it was stiffer than some of the rest.
The bananas were so moist and thick that they required a longer heating time.

Red-Orange fruit roll-up: pineapple, strawberry, lime fruit roll-up (above)

This one was the stickiest one of all. It was cooked just the right amount of time.
It had the texture (even stickier) than an actual store-bought fruit roll-up.
I love citrus flavors and this one definitely has a bite to it!

It's pretty beautiful. Look at all those seeds from the strawberries.

I'm having trouble giving them away.

Space Jam Wrapping Paper

There are no words to really add extra value to these images.
They are more Awesome than a fudge popsicle in the middle of summer.
...better than mac & cheese.

I was at my best friend's house and noticed a roll of paper leaning against the wall.
I asked her what it was because it intrigued me from a distance. I couldn't quite make out the figures.

I have no idea how she Forgot (!!!) to tell me that she had Space Jam wrapping paper from 1996!!!
This paper is priceless. I half begged that she would wrap my next present in it.

This is frameable.
This is pure 1990s spunk on a roll of paper.
Michael Jordan in repeat?
Yes, please.

"Pump up the Jam, Pump it Up!...Get your booty on the floor tonight...
Make my Day
Make my Day
Make my Day"
(Technotronic)

The soundtrack is even better than the movie.

Documenting Thanksgiving 2013

When I am home it is a time to relax...not work.
Being creative is not work. It's fun. It's my hobby. It's my career.
With that said, these are images taken around my house from the days
leading up to and following Thanksgiving day.

I believe I've photographed this rug 100 times.

I totally let my mom take my cat while I was on vacation for a wedding...
And I never took her back!
She's a tumultuous woman.
This is the first time I've seen her in a month.

Behind me is a roaring fire.

(iPhone pics above)

This was Jake's (the family bulldog) house.
He was a sweet dog and has since passed away but this is a cute little picture of his abode.

I love this image of him and my mom. She was truly his mama.
My mother didn't want a dog but she feel in love with him.
It was taken with B/W 120 film with one of my favorite cameras (Mamiya RZ67).
-- Fall of 2011 --

My mom is switching out holiday decorations.
Goodbye sentimental Thanksgiving...Hello Christmas!

 So. Many. Candles.
I love it.

Then we photographed a really old painting from Governor's Honors Program.
Better known as GHP in 2005.
We rolled this bad boy up and he'll be tucked away for a while.
It's amazing how much my taste has matured over the years.
I loved this painting for a few years but now it's not quite so pleasing to me.

My mom and my sister assisting me :)
They refused to be seen.

Out of the whole painting, I would salvage this corner.
The texture is out of this world.

Forced Vacay

I'm not very good at "taking time off".
But this kind of vacation (with family I never see) is enough to make me forget all the stresses of work and worries in life. This kind of trip is my remedy.

Welcome to Corolla, NC.

I've had time to do completely pointless things like
re-organizing my Pinterest boards.

Delving into 2 years' worth of home interior photographs and design oriented pins has left me pondering career paths. Here are some images that are giving me a jolt of excitement and inspiring me to GET GOING.......when I get back to the ATL.
