Homemade Fruit Rollups


Every now and then I get to drive away from the city, get away from my routine.
In my getaway place I get to hold baby chicks, skateboard, focus on shooting
in analog format, purchase craft beer, and cook anything from scratch you can think of.
This is my heaven. Food. Freedom. Fun.
It all began in 2013 and the fun continues.
Each visit to this place provides me with a way of creating something new...
and usually not in my typical artistic avenues.

My friend Ginger is my accomplice.
And my accomplice owns a massive dehydrator.
We've dehydrated quite a few things but this go-around we made fruit leather (or fruit roll-ups).



We started the process by chopping up all of the fruit and blending them separately.
We then heated up a pot for each fruit, turned the heat to high and let it come to a boil.
This helps reduce the amount of air trapped from blending. We scooped the foam off the top
and spread the fruit on a sheet of parchment paper in very thin layers.
Once this semi-long process was over we shoved them into drawers
in the dehydrator for several hours.

The yellow one got dehydrated a little too long so it was stiffer than some of the rest.
The bananas were so moist and thick that they required a longer heating time.

This one was the stickiest one of all. It was cooked just the right amount of time.
It had the texture (even stickier) than an actual store-bought fruit roll-up.
I love citrus flavors and this one definitely has a bite to it!



It's pretty beautiful. Look at all those seeds from the strawberries.


I'm having trouble giving them away.
